The Board is responsible for ascertaining the qualifications of applicants for admission to the Bar of Virginia and licensing those applicants who meet those requirements as established by the Supreme Court of Virginia, the Virginia General Assembly, and the Rules and Regulations issued by the Board.

The test is divided into two (2) periods of three (3) hours each, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with questions in each period. The bar exam will vary on what’s included but on most exams, it will have some sort of legal/research writing assignment, short essays and multiple choice questions.
In Texas, for example, it includes a simulated legal writing assignment, 40 short answered questions, multiple choice and 12 essays. The Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) is developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
