Peak to Peak has our first ever U. Mayank Mishra 12th grade was one of only students selected for this prestigious award and one of only two in Colorado. Inthe Program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts.
Simone Davis, gold key in photography for Who? Six West Tisbury School students took home writing awards. Regional high school students dominated in the photography category, with 32 awards. Sophomore Davin Tackabury led the way with eight photography awards, including four gold keys, the top honor.
He also earned two silver keys, the second place prize, and two honorable mentions. Gold key winners will see their work go on to compete at the national competition in New York city, and the artwork will also be displayed at a special gallery exhibit in Boston.
Gold and silver key winners will also be invited to a ceremony at Tufts University in March. Chris Baer, the high school art, design and technology department chair, said winning artwork will be on display at the high school library conference room in March.
Several other students earned honorable mentions for photography: Salyn Yancey earned gold key in ceramics and glass for this piece, titled coral.
Other students were honored for a wide range of creative work. Olin Gannon and Danielle Middleton earned silver keys in ceramics and glass.
Salyn Yancey earned a silver key and an honorable mention in ceramics and glass. Grace Kenney won a silver key in sculpture and Salyn Yancey earned a silver key in painting.
Julian Herman earned an honorable mention in digital art, David Sweitzer earned an honorable mention in fashion, and Rebeca Lima earned an honorable mention in film and animation.
Alyssa Smith and Salyn Yancey both received honorable mentions in the painting category. West Tisbury School students took home several writing awards this year. Graham Stearns took home a gold key in poetry for his poem titled Fishing Poem, and a silver key in journalism.
Hardy Eville won a silver key in journalism. Charter school students were also honored. Marshall Davidson received an honorable mention for his art portfolio.
Autumn Richards won two honorable mentions, one for painting and one for mixed media.The Scholastic Writing Awards are a national competition, and Gold Key winners from Missouri (and Kansas counties near Kansas City) advance to the next level.
Gold Key, Silver Key, and Honorable Mention awards are distributed in each category, and winners are invited to the annual Scholastic Writing Awards Ceremony at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage.
